I did jog again yesterday limiting it to 3 miles, very slow because I just did a run 5 miles the day before. This jog was more like an excuse to get off my computer screen and out of the house to enjoy the sun again. Florida has some of the best summer days I have seen so far. I did other non-computer related tasks afterwards: Dropped some used clothes to Salvation, drove to the new Palm Beach Outlet mall to get some khaki pants, and picked some PHP books from the local library. I did spend some time figuring how to upload images to my current php programs but decided to give my brain [or whatever is left of it] some rest. I know it’s exciting to pursue my nerdy needs but a man has to get away from it all sometimes. The Palm Beach Mall gave me some perspective - this mall had been closed for years and was recently re-constructed and re-branded and re-opened as a big outlet mall. And I remember when it was still a regular visitor here before the ‘grime and crime’ that drove customers away, I remember my excitement visiting GAP and Banana Republic then. I felt excitement then in going to Border Bookstore to drink coffee whiling hours away browsing and reading books. And then it all stopped. Sure I went to Wellington Mall in Wellington and Galeria in Fort Lauderdale but GAP and Banana Republic are still my stores. Wellington has Fitch and Abercrombie but ever since Mario my friend mocked me while I was checking their shirts through my bifocals, surrounded by ‘children’ -- call me paranoid but my God, when a young 17 year old high school girl asks you how she could help and you join these children checking out shirts, I feel like, a pedophile or something. Yeah, I think we all have our own brands and stores and they depend on which generation they belong to. So you can just imagine my excitement when I saw Banana Republic and GAP side by side just immediately after the Food Court in the new outlet mall. I can now buy clothes and then fatten up with the food. Or vice versa.

I was contented with my health status until this morning when I found that I am 5 pounds above my ideal BMI. Ok, I know I have an excuse though this excuse isn’t excusable (if you know what I mean) but 5 pounds is way too much considering it took me only 2 weeks of inactivity to gain them. My sole excuse is that I had finals in school and I fully embraced the rituals associated with the finals - poor sleeping habits, lots of caffeine via coffee and soda and careless junk and poor scheduling of meals. I am sure I’d be fine if I were a college-age student but I am 51 for chrissakes! I enrolled in Calculus after nearly thirty years of College Algebra. In my estimation, 5 months of intense study was the time it took me from taking Advanced Placement to getting an A. That’s right, my brain is still capable my friends - but my body may not be able to sustain itself due to unhealthy habits despite the A. What’s worse is that I have another Summer of Discrete Math and I dread another 5 weeks of inactivity though I am plotting ways to overcome that.
